Peer Supporter Nick Overman

Nick Overman is the Safety Captain for the Dayton Fire Department. Nick began his career in the fire service in 2000, joining the Dayton Fire Department a year later in 2001. When not working he enjoys running, golfing, and relaxing with his wife and dogs around their property.

Nick got involved with peer support to help break the stigma surrounding behavioral health in the fire service and to help his Brother and Sister fire fighters in need.  Nick recently told the OAPFF, “We do a very good job of training our fire fighters to mitigate emergency incidents but we fall short in helping them deal with the emotional toll those emergencies can bring.”  Nick strongly believes in the peer support model; “I have had problems handling some of what I have seen and don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have peers to lean on.”
